His Excellency Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, conducted a state visit to China from May 10 to 14, 2025, focusing on deepening China-Brazil strategic cooperation and advancing the signing of agreements in fields such as trade, infrastructure and energy. On the afternoon of May 12, President Lula and Gao Yunlong, Vice Chairman of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, jointly attended the China-Brazil Business Seminar and delivered keynote addresses. Pan Feng, Vice Chairman of the China-Europe Association for Technical and Economic Cooperation (CEATEC) and Chairman of the Europe-China Economic Cooperation and Development Council (ECECDC), also participated in the event.
President Lula highly praised the importance of China-Brazil relations, stating that China is an indispensable strategic partner for Brazil. He welcomed Chinese enterprises to increase investment in Brazil—especially in infrastructure construction, new energy and artificial intelligence—and urged Brazil to raise the value-added of its industries, reduce dependence on exports of primary commodities and raw materials, and step up investment in education to cultivate more engineers, mathematicians and AI specialists. "Protectionism leads nowhere," President Lula emphasized. "We must pursue and practice multilateral free trade. The relationship between China and Brazil is unbreakable. China needs Brazil, and Brazil needs China. As long as we join hands, the Global South will earn unprecedented respect on the world stage." He added that Brazil stands ready to actively align its development strategy with China's to achieve more mutually beneficial results and to set an example of unity and cooperation among Global South countries.
Vice Chairman Gao Yunlong remarked that, against the backdrop of numerous global economic challenges, the Chinese side is willing to work with all sectors in Brazil to fully implement the important consensus reached by President Xi Jinping and President Lula. He noted that cooperation across various fields should be deepened to better benefit the peoples of both countries, and that together they should build a more just world and a more sustainable planet within the framework of a China-Brazil community of shared destiny, safeguard the multilateral trading system, inject positive energy into global peace and development, and promote economic stability and prosperity worldwide.
The seminar featured four thematic discussion sessions. Many Brazilian ministers and governors, along with more than 30 corporate representatives from both countries, engaged in in-depth dialogue on key areas such as investment and new financing opportunities, energy transition and sustainable development, and food security—exploring ways to advance bilateral economic and trade cooperation under the goal of building a China-Brazil community of shared destiny. During the event, multiple corporate cooperation agreements were signed. Approximately 500 participants from government departments and enterprises on both sides attended the seminar, which yielded significant and positive outcomes.
